Travelling is fun, fun, fun! Given that you
know what to do, that is. We travel to have fun; not to worry. Worries are a
result to being unprepared. To give you a heads up on the things that you need
to bring, you can see one of our previous posts, Essentials in You Need WhenTravelling Overseas. For first timers, that may have been too helpful,
but for backpackers, a little refresher won’t hurt.
When you travel to enjoy the different
cultures, people, and views, how do you make the best of it? Do you simply
visit the places you’re supposed to visit just because they are in the
itinerary? I dare myself to go a little further than that when I step into a
different country.
It is the effort of how much you immerse in
the culture of your current location that matters most. When you decide to
visit a lake, you won’t appreciate it unless you try how your skin feels when
it touches the water- metaphorically speaking. That’s why all my travels (for
the sake of vacation and a sense of getaway) are all memorable and worth it!

All
You Can Eat
I’m not saying the All You Can Eat buffets
at famous restaurants. Well, you can start off with trying restaurants
exclusive to that place, but I’m not solely referring to that. Do you know how
fun it is to enjoy street foods? It’s the experience in general that makes
everything perfect: the bustling sound of people walking around, the sound of
vehicles, the smell of different foods overlapping each other, and the foreign
taste of that food (which you are still trying to acquire and appreciate) you
bought from a cart.
Even Paris has street foods. Let’s take
away all our impressions of the exciting, sophisticated Paris. It may be all
that, but for those who are living humbly, street foods are one of the top choices.
Worth it? Yes, they are!
Listen!
Have you ever stopped and listened to a
band of street musicians? If you appreciate music, you’re certainly in for a
treat. Nothing beats stress than the sound, full of enthusiasm and passion,
produced by these brilliant musicians. If you think recording artists are
great, you’d realize that there are more brilliant musicians on the loose!
Of course, you have to give them a little
of your charity. A guitar case or a hat is laid open in front or beside them
where you can put a dollar or dollars in. They appreciate that gesture, and you
can even request a song. You’re lucky if they know it. And since you’re in a
place where no one really knows you, dance! I dare you! If you don’t, you’ll
end up regretting why you missed the moment when you get home.
Meet
People
You’ll surely meet people in excursions.
However, it is also best if you made friends with the locals. This way, you’ll
be able to bask in their cultures and traditions. No one can explain those like
the locals. Oh, yes, one more thing: you need to smile. A smile is the gateway
to meeting new acquaintances. They can be from transits, clubs, and other
places. Don’t forget to take photos of and with them.
Try
Something New
Get a tan, get a tattoo, dye your hair, and
get a piercing... do whatever! It’s something to remember by. Be friends with
change. You can even pose for a street painter. When you get to a place, try
studying what’s “in”. Think of trying it. Bring a little something from the
place with you when you get home.
And most of all...
Appreciate
Every country is different. Each one has
its own culture, beliefs, and ways of living. You will never have the best
travel if you don’t bring with you an open mind. This is true especially when
you travel to countries in Asia where there is a big difference in culture and
language can be a big barrier. There are a lot of wonderful things in store for
you, but if you don’t keep an open mind and try what the new place has to offer
you, you will never enjoy your trip no matter how prepared you are.
The experiences you’ll get out of
travelling to different places are priceless. And don’t forget to sit back,
relax, and enjoy the sunset, especially when you’re in the tropical beaches in
Bali or enjoying the bricked walk of Paris. No matter where you are, it’s
always beautiful.
